Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before adding the Firming Booster to your routine.
Is Bakuchiol the same as retinol?
No. Bakuchiol has a different chemical structure to retinol, but functions in a similar way on the skin. In a head-to-head clinical trial, it matched retinol's efficacy for reducing wrinkles and pigmentation, while causing significantly less scaling, stinging and irritation.
Will it irritate my skin the way retinol can?
Bakuchiol is known for being much gentler than retinol. In clinical studies, it caused significantly less redness, flaking and stinging, making it suitable for daily use, including for sensitive skin.
Can I use it if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
Bakuchiol isn't metabolised in the body the same way retinoids are, which is why some people look for it as a retinol alternative during pregnancy. We always recommend checking with your doctor before introducing any new active ingredient during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Can I use it during the day?
Yes. Unlike retinol, Bakuchiol is photostable, meaning it doesn't break down or become irritating in sunlight. We still recommend wearing SPF as part of your daily routine.
How long until I see results?
In clinical studies, visible improvements to fine lines, texture and firmness were recorded from around 4 weeks, with the most significant results by 12 weeks of consistent use. Results vary person to person.
How often should I use it?
Apply in the evening to start, once daily, increasing to twice daily as your skin builds tolerance.
What order should I apply it in with the serum?
Apply the Firming Booster first to clean skin, follow with Sea Buckthorn Serum, then finish with your moisturiser.
Can I use it with other actives?
Bakuchiol is generally well tolerated alongside other actives, including vitamin C and niacinamide. If layering with other treatments, introduce one new product at a time.
